Consider renting a car both ways instead of parking at the airport
Two one-way car rentals is a nifty savings strategy that eliminates the need for parking at LaGuardia. But will it work for you?
If you live a good distance from the LGA and/or will be traveling for a lengthy period of time it could be just the solution, saving you money and eliminating the worry of parking at LGA with your personal vehicle.
How does it work? Reserve a rental car for the day you’re flying out at an agency that’s near your home. Drive the car directly to the airport and return it to the LGA car rental agency before boarding your flight (all on the same day). You also reserve a second car for the day you fly home so you can reverse the process.
We like to search RentalCars.com for LGA rentals. It’s easy to compare prices and they allow you to reserve online without a credit card. Also, as part of the Priceline Group, they can negotiate great deals with all the major LGA car rental companies.
Voila! No asking friends or relatives for a lift to and from LaGuardia airport. No worrying about finding a parking space. And no fretting about the safety of your car while you’re gone.
Of course, you need to find a good deal on a car rental for this to save you money. That’s where using an online car rental aggregator is a good idea.

LGA: A brief overview of the airport
LaGuardia Airport LGA covers 680 acres in the borough of Queens in New York. It’s operated by the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey along with JFK Airport and Newark Airport (EWR).
The land where LGA is located was formerly the site of the Gala Amusement Park and owned by the Steinway (piano) family. The park was razed in 1929 to create a private airfield. Fiorello La Guardia, the mayor of New York from 1934-1945, championed the creation of a new commercial airport on the property, which was dedicated on Oct. 15, 1939, as the New York Municipal Airport. It was renamed LaGuardia Airport in 1953.
More than 15 million passengers traveled through LGA in 2018, ranking it the 21st busiest airport in the United States.
American, Delta, United, Southwest, Frontier, Spirit and Air Canada are LGA’s major airlines. The top domestic routes include Chicago O’Hare (ORD), Atlanta (ATL), Miami (MIA), Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) and Fort Lauderdale (FLL).
LGA has a reputation as being one of the worst, most run-down airports in the U.S. However, billions of dollars have been pumped into the facility in recent years resulting in major improvements.
